TORONTO: Everyone knows Kiefer Sutherland as an iconic screen and TV actor (long running series 24 that starred Anil Kapoor as well), but how many know of him as a singer and musician?
That’s right, on June 27, as part of the ongoing TD Toronto Jazz festival, Kiefer totally wowed the audience at the sold out and jam packed legendary Horseshoe Tavern on Queen Street in downtown Toronto. Fresh from his Not Enough Whiskey tour, Kiefer not only performed songs from his debut country album “Down In A Hole”, but also recounted anecdotes from his childhood.
“The TD Toronto Jazz Festival is one of the great music festivals in North America” Sutherland said. “And to be invited to play was an honor. Not to mention it’s my hometown and I can’t tell you how excited I am to be a part of it.”
He thanked the crowd for showing up and recounted the story of how he was thrown out of this famous tavern in his late 20s which prompted laughter from the patrons. All his songs are taken from his own personal experiences and he felt a great thrill to express all his good and bad moments through music. “I am experiencing great joy now being able to play these songs to a live audience, which was something I hadn’t counted on.”
He and his band members also took a glass of whiskey each and invited everyone to join in to take a sip. It was a moment to remember as everyone took a swig from their own drinks and cheered them on.
He and his band kept regaling the crowd in the intimate atmosphere of the lounge with music and stories. As one patron remarked: “I love this guy as an actor and now I love his music!”
The storied Horseshoe Tavern (more popularly known as the ‘Shoe) was once again host to another storied personality.
