BOLLYWOOD: The alleged suicide by actor Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, has shocked Bollywood and India even as some of his relatives have suspected there could be some foul play in it.
His body found was found hanging from the ceiling by his servant in his apartment in the upscale Bandra in Mumbai. There was no suicide note.
The Shudh Desi Romance actor was reportedly undergoing treatment for depression for the last six months, according to reports.
Curiously, Sushant’s former manager Disha Salian had died just a few days ago – on June 9 – after falling from the 12th floor of her Malad highrise apartment. She was said to be drunk at the time of her death. Police reportedly questioned Sushant in connection with her death.
In an another coincidence in the case, Sushant’s former girlfriend Ankita Lokhande, whom he dated for over five years, announced her engagement to businessman Vicky Jain on June 11.
The actor was currently reportedly dating actress Rhea Chakraborty.
In his last Instagram post, Sushant posted his picture alongside of his mother who passed away in 2002. In the post, he wrote, “Blurred past & a fleeting life, negotiating between the two.’’
His father KK Singh, a retired government official who lives alone in Patna, collapsed when he heard the news of his son’s death. Relatives from his hometown of Purnea in Bihar have reached his father’s residence in Patna.
According to reports, the maternal uncle of Sushant Singh Rajput has demanded a judicial investigation into his death.
The maternal uncle said Sushant could have never taken the extreme step of ending his own life. There must be some conspiracy behind his death and it must be investigated, he said.
A brilliant student who ranked seventh in the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) to join the mechanical engineering course, Sushant dropped out to become an actor.
He started his acting career as a backup dancer. He got his acting break in 2009 the soap opera `Pavitra Rishta’ on Zee TV. He made his Bollywood debut in 2013 with the film ‘Kai Po Che’. He went to act in 11 movies, including Shuddh Desi Romance, PK and M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story.
Sushant Singh Rajput was the only son of his parents, with four elder sisters.
