MUMBAI: Zeenat Aman, the most glamorous Bollywood actress of the 1970s, has denied any romantic relationship with the legendary Raj Kapoor.
On Friday, the 71-year-old actress who attended the ABP Ideas Of India 2023 summit here, said the late actor Dev Anand was ‘completely wrong’ in assuming that she had an ‘interpersonal relationship’ with Raj Kapoor.
In his autobiography ‘Romancing with Life’ (2007), Dev Anand said he fell in love with Zeenat Aman when they co-starred in ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna.’ But she grew closer to Raj Kapoor after he offered her the lead role in ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram.’
Zeenat, who was crowned Miss Asia Pacific ate age of 19 in 1973, said, “With all due respect, at times while we are narrating an incident or an anecdote, we put some bits to make it interesting. I don’t know what Dev sahab’s perspective was but whatever was his perspective, it was completely wrong. Now, I will write about this in my book. I admire Dev sahab, I respect him but this was not correct.”
She said, “I would meet him (Raj Kapoor) as his about-to-be heroine. We never had any inter-personal relationship ever, nor during that time, or before or after, never. He was passionate about his work. I was passionate about my work.”
About her bad marriages, Zeenat Aman, who first married Sanjay Khan in 1978 and then Mazhar Khan in 1985, said it’s tough for actresses to have successful married life
She said, “It is better not to be married than to have a bad marriage. And many people would not know that an actor works very hard to make their marriage work. These girls (referring to married actresses) make so many sacrifices, people who are not in the limelight may not do it. They get married because they want to be married. I know quite a lot of girls put up with a lot of things that most girls would not put up.”
