BOLLYWOOD: Mumbai city has sealed all four bungalows of Bollywood super star Amitabh Bachchan, 77, after he, his son Abhishek Bachchan, 44, daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, 46, and granddaughter Aaradhya, 8, tested positive for coronavirus.
Amitabh’s wife Jaya Bachchan, however, has tested negative for coronavirus.
At Nanavati Hospital where Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan are admitted, Dr Abdul Samad Ansari, director of Critical Care Services, said the super star and his son were “feeling better.”
Abhishek Bachchan tweeted, “My father and I remain in hospital till the doctors decide otherwise. Everyone please remain cautious and safe. Please follow all rules!”
No one knows how the Amitabh Bachchan family got infected! Amitabh has not ventured out of his bungalow much. Some advertisements for the upcoming season of his megashow Kaun Banega Crorepati were shot at his bungalow.
Abhishek Bachchan too has not gone out in recent days except for his visit to a dubbing studio after the lockdown eased. If fact, the Amitabh Bachchan family have been socializing among themselves and posting family pictures on social media.
Maybe someone working at one of their four bungalows might have caught the virus and brought it to the family. Mumbai, along with Delhi, has been the worst-hit corona city in India.
In view of the Amitabh Bachchan family infections, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said it has tested 30 people working for the family and sealed four bungalows – Pratiksha, Janak, Vatsa and Jalsa – belonging to the Bollywood super star.
When Amitabh Bachchan was admitted to hospital on Saturday, he tweeted, “I have tested COVID-19 positive… shifted to hospital… hospital informing authorities .. family and staff undergone tests, results awaited…All that have been in close proximity to me in the last 10 days are requested to please get themselves tested!”
Then his son Abhishek also came positive, followed by his wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and daughter Aaradhya .
“Aishwarya and Aaradhya have also tested COVID-19 positive. They will be self-quarantining at home. The BMC has been updated on their situation and is doing the needful” and added: “The rest of the family, including my mother have tested negative. Thank you all for your wishes and prayers,’’ Abhishek Bachchan tweeted.
Thanking his fans for their best wishes, Amitabh tweeted on Sunday evening, “It shall not be possible for me to acknowledge and respond to all the prayers and wishes expressed by them that have shown concern towards Abhishek, Aishwarya, Aaradhya and me .. I put my hands together and say ..Thank you for your eternal love and affection..to them that have expressed their concern, their prayers and their wishes for Abhishek Aishwarya Aaradhya and me .. my unending gratitude and love..”
The Amitabh Bachchan family are the first high-profile celebrities to be impacted by the coronavirus which has shown big spike in recent days. Their fans across the country are holding special prayers for their recovery.
REKHA BUNGALOW SEALED
Meanwhile, the bungalow of veteran Bollywood diva Rekha in Bandra has also been sealed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation after one of her security guards tested positive for coronavirus.
Authorities say Rekha’s bungalow – Sea Spring – was sealed after the security guard tested positive on Tuesday.
Aamir Khan, Karan Johar and Boney Kapoor are other Bollywood celebrities someone in whose staff has tested positive.
