MUMBAI: With Akram Ullah, the current owner of Dilip Kumar’s ancestral home in Peshawar, demanding a whopping Rs 80 million to sell the four-marla house after Pakistan Minister Nawaz Sharif declared it a national heritage, the government could just forcibly take over the property and pay him whatever it deems is the right price.
The provincial Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa government was thinking of buying Dilip Kumar’s ancestral house even before the country’s prime minister declared it a national heritage. The house is in Mohallah Khudadad behind Qissa Khawani Bazaar in Peshawar.
The owner of the house initially demanded Rs 35 million, but the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government offered him Rs 20 million.
But now that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has declared it a national heritage site, the owner of the house has raised the price of the house to Rs 80 million.
However, Pakistan’s 18th Amendment allows provincial governments to acquire or take over places of national importance. Under it, the KP government can just take over Dilip Kumar’s house from Akram Ullah and pay him whatever it deems is the right price, according to Dawn.
Since the house is in a bad condition, the Pakistani prime minister has ordered its quick takeover which is now the responsibility of the provincial government in Peshawar.
