MUMBAI: Happy birthday to Bollywood femme fatale Dimple Kapadia, who was born on this day ââ¬â June 8 ââ¬â in 1957 to rich Gujarati parents in Mumbai.
Exuding sublime sexuality, Dimple became a huge star after her debut in Bollywood in Raj Kapoor’s hit film ââ¬ËBobbyââ¬â¢ opposite his son Rishi Kapoor. She was just 15 at that time!
In fact, she launched Bobby as the favourite name for newly born kids in India. Parents also started naming their newborns Dimple.
Such was her spell on India in 1973.
People simply fell in love with the bikini-clad Bobby.
And she fell madly in love with her Bobby co-star Rishi Kapoor while shooting the film. But their young romance died a quick death as his father said `noââ¬â¢.ÃÂ
Young Dimple again fell in love ââ¬â this time with super star Rajesh Khanna and married him in March 1973 even as she was still shooting Bobby. The film was released in September 1973 to a record commercial success.
When her first daughter Twinkle Khanna was born in December 1973, there were rumours that Dimple was pregnant by Rishi Kapoor before she married Rajesh Khanna.ÃÂ
But years later, Rishi Kapoor himself clarified in a tweet that Twinkle Khanna was not his daughter.
After the birth of Twinkle, Dimple took a break from films. It was unheard of that a star took a break at the age of 16.
She gave birth to another daughter and then came her divorce in 1982.
Then came her rip-roaring affair with the already married Sunny Deol. He even introduced her as his second wife. The affair lasted 11 years.
In the 1980s, she did some scorching hot scenes in various films, recreating her old sizzling aura.
Dimple won a National Film Award for Best actress in 1992 for her role in ââ¬ËRudaaliââ¬â¢.
Her elder Twinkle is married to actor Akshay Kumar.ÃÂ
To greet her mom on her birthday, Twinkle posted a photocombed picture of her mom with her by her hubby Akshay.ÃÂ
