NEW YORK: Donald Trump is the only US President to be married thrice.
Six US President, including Ronald Reagan, Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt, were married twice.
Why previous Donald Trump marriages fell apart? In interviews, Trump has balmed himself for the failure of first two marriages as he too busy with his business life.
ââ¬ÅI blame myself because my business was so powerful for me. I donââ¬â¢t know if thatââ¬â¢s a good thing or a bad thing,ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ Trump said in an interview some years ago.
He said his two previous wives ââ¬Åwere very goodââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ and he is currently in ââ¬Åa great marriageââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ with his wife Melania.
DONALD TRUMP MARRIAGES
Speaking about Donald Trump marriages, he was first married to Czech-American model Ivana Zelnickova ââ¬â from 1977 to 1991. Ivana had come to Montreal from Czechoslovakia after divorcing her first husband in 1971. While in Montreal, she worked as a model. When she went to New York to promote the 1976 Montreal Olympics she met Donald Trump. The two got hooked and got married in 1997. The couple sired three children ââ¬â Donald Trump Jr, Ivanka and Eric Trump.
Ivana filed for divorce from Trump in 1991 and it became an ugly affair as she fought for a larger pie of the Trump fortune. Their divorce proceedings became so ugly that she described a 1989 incident between the couple asà`rapeââ¬â¢ and said she felt `violated.ââ¬â¢
This `rapeââ¬â¢ incident was also described in the bookàLost Tycoon: The Many Lives of Donald J. Trump by Newsweek journalist Harry Hurt.
As per this 1993 book, the `rapeââ¬â¢ incident happened after Donald Trump underwent a scalp reduction surgery to remove a bald spot. But Trump was not pleased with the surgenry. It was performed by the same plastic surgeon that his wife Ivana used. Trump blamed his wife for the bad job done by the surgeon. ââ¬ÅYour fucking doctor has ruined me,ââ¬Â Trump shouted at Ivana.
According to the book, Donald grabbed his wife and tried to pull her hair just to remind her about his pain caused by the plastic surgeon. He tore off his wifeââ¬â¢s clothes. ââ¬ÅThen he jams his penis inside her for the first time in more than sixteen months. Ivana is terrifiedââ¬Â¦ It is a violent assault,ââ¬Â the account of the event in the book says.
Trumpââ¬â¢s second marriage took place in 1993 with actress and TV host Marla Maples. Maples was reportedly the cause of his divorce from his first wife.
According to New York Times, Maples was Trumpââ¬â¢s mistress and during their Aspen vacations she asked Trumpââ¬â¢s wife, ââ¬ÅAre you in love with your husband? Because I am.ââ¬Â
Marla and Trump had a daughter Tiffany Trump and they divorced in 1999.
Trumpââ¬â¢s third and current marriage with Slovenia model and fashion designer Melania took place in 2005. They have a son Barron Trump, born in 2006. Trump and Melania met at a party in New York in 2000. Trump, who was accompanied by another woman, introduced himself to Melania and asked for her phone number, but she refused. But she herslef got his number and called him a few days later.
BACHELOR PRESIDENT
There is only one US President who remained a bachelor. It was the 15th President James Buchanan (1857-1861).ÃÂ Actually, Buchanan was engaged to a rich woman named Anne Caroline Coleman. But she broke off the engagement because of his rumoured affairs and died as she became hysterical.
According to her doctor, her death was ââ¬Åthe first instance he ever knew of hysteria producing death.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ Buchanan was not allowed to attend her funeral. Other reports said he was a homosexual.
Interestingly, no US President has ever divorced his wife. Reagan was the only President to ever divorce his wife, but that divorce happened before he became the President.
If Hillary Clinton had filed for divorce from Bill Clinton after the Monica Lewinsky affair, he would have become the first sitting US President to be divorced.
