Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah may be now rolling in millions in a short career, but his grandfather Santokh Singh Bumrah is living a hard life, eking out his living as an auto driver in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand.
According to reports, 84-year-old Santokh Singh Bumrah once had a thriving factory business in Ahmedabad but the death of his son (and Jasprit’s father) Jasbir Singh in 2001 left him a broken man and the family’s chemical business collapsed. Jasprit Bumrah’s mother, who is a school principal, raised her children single-handedly.
It is known when his grandfather moved to Uttarakhand from Ahmedabad. Today, the old man lives in a one-room accommodation and is struggling to make a living by driving auto-rickshaw.
He says he has seen his grandson only on TV and his wish is to meet him. He says he wishes his superstar cricketer grandson the very best.
