MUMBAI: Looks like Veeru and Jai, the two great buddies of the 1975 Bollywood blockbuster Sholay, are not so great buddies in real life.
It was Dharmendra (Veeru), an established name in Bollywood in 1975, who had recommended Amitabh (Jai) for the role. On the 40th anniversary of Sholay in 2015, Amitabh acknowledged he had pleaded with Dharmendra to recommend his name.
But Dharmendra feels Amitabh should have acknowledged the favour much earlier in his career.
Speaking at Aaj Tak Agenda 2017, Dharmendra says, ”Amitabh says now that I recommended him. If he is saying that from where he is now, from such a dizzying height, people will talk about his greatness. He never said earlier that I had recommended him. So now when he says it, people will say he is great, not I.”
The two actors got together in 2015 on the sets of Amitabh’s TV show Aaj Ki Raat Hai Zindagi to create the friendship magic of 40 years ago.
