Google on June 22 honoured Bollywood’s most famous villain actor Amrish Puri on his 87th birth anniversary with a doodle. The actor died of blood cancer in January 2005 at the age of 73.
The doodle to honour Puri has been sketched by a Pune artist named Debangshu Moulik.
Jalandhar-born Amrish Puri, who also acted in major international hits such as Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi and Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, appeared in nearly 400 films.
In Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Amrish played the role of Thuggee priest Mola Ram. For this role, he shaved his head.
In one of his interviews, Spielberg praised Amrish, saying, “Amrish is my favourite villain — The best the world has ever produced and ever will.”
In Attenborough’s Gandhi, he played the role of Khan.
The actor made his film debut at the ripe age of 39 after making a name for himself as a stage and TV actor.
His first bit role was in Dev Anand’s Prem Pujari (1970). He is most famous for the role of Mogambo in the cult film Mr. India.
Amrish’s last film Kachchi Sadak released in 2006.
