Hattie McDaniel, who made history by becoming the first black to win an Oscar for her role in the 1939 epic movie Gone With the Wind, was born today (June 10) 125 years ago in 1895. Coincidentally, her 125th birthday comes on a day when HBO max pulled out her movie (Gone With the Wind) because of the on-going racial problems in the US after the killing of George Floyd by a white policeman in Minneapolis on May 25.
