Anurag Kashyap’s Husband Material, Nandita Das’s Manto and Hotel Mumbai are entries from India
TORONTO: Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan – titled Husband Material in English – will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this year.
Manmarziyaan, along with Nandita Das’s Manto, were the Indian titles among many films announced Tuesday for galas and special screening presentations at this year’s film festival from September 6.
Starring Abhishek, Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal, Manmarziyaan will also be one of the gala presentations at the festival which runs from September 6 to 16.
With Abhishek playing the role of a Sardar, Manmarziyaan is the story of a girl trapped in a love triangle. It has been shot in Punjab, Delhi and Kashmir.
Nandita Das’s Manto will be screened in the special presentations section of the film festival.
Written and directed by Nandita Das, Manto is the biographical drama about the life of the sub-continent’s famous Urdu writer Saadat Hasan Manto. Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the role of Manto in the film.
Anupam Kher-starrer Hotel Mumbai about the 2008 terror attacks on the Taj Palace Hotel in Mumbai will also have its world premiere at TIFF.
Lady Gaga, Julia Roberts, Hugh Jackman, and Robert Pattinson are among the top stars who are featuring in the films being screened at this year’s festival.
While Lady Gaga co-stars in Bradley Cooper’s remake of A Star Is Born, Julia Roberts features in Peter Hedges’s Ben Is Back which deals with the Opioid crisis in America.
Steve McQueen’s Widows, Felix Van Groeningen’s Beautiful Boy, and Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk are among the most anticipated films coming to the world’s premier film festival.
The festival’s opening film has not been announced yet.
