BRAMPTON: Recently at a splendid gala replete with a seemingly never-ending stream of delicious hors d’oeuvres, the Rose Theatre in Brampton launched their confirmed shows for the upcoming 2022-2023 season.

The variety entertainment night started off with a welcome to the indigenous people and showcasing their dance, followed by announcements and a steel pan/ drum duo featuring the Larnell Lewis band and the Joy Lapps project that will be bringing The Brampton International Drumming Festival later in the summer to the main stage.

Then Terrell Edwards took centre stage socking it to the crowd with his soul numbers. This sensational crooner, who Jay Leno says is a must see talent, will treat you to an unforgettable night in the fall at Studio II.

More announcements followed and on came Scottish-Canadian Gowan regaling the crowd with his affable demeanor and great tunes, ending the night with John Lennon’s timeless song, “Imagine.”

The sneak peek into the upcoming events reflects the diversity of the current make-up of the flower city including acts by a number of South Asian artists.

First up amongst the South Asian performers is Monsoon Sound on Aug 27, a free concert celebrating South Asian hip hop artists. Following that we have world renowned comedy star Shaun Majumder who is also a well known actor. Comedian and actor Ali Hassan will also turn Brampton into Laughsville.

Straight from the belly of Brooklyn in N.Y. the band Red Baraat, led by founder Sunny Jain , will leave you stunned with their energetic sounds blending hard driving bhangra with jazz, hip-hop and raw punk energy. This is a not to be missed concert which will have you on your feet dancing away, where the “dhol” moments will leave you without a dull moment.

Another interesting show will be transwoman Vivek Shraya’s debut theatrical work “How to Fail as a Pop Star.” This assistant professor at the University of Calgary will narrate in an enchanting and insightful manner her journey from singing in shopping malls to “not quite” superstardom.

Besides all these, more may be added as time goes on.

Artists from all cultural backgrounds will be represented. Many crack musicians like Tom Cochrane and Red Rider, Randy Bachman(of The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive), five time Grammy award winner Robert Cray, The Original Wailers (associated with world famous Bob Marley), Martin Barre (of Jethro Tull), Big Wreck, the multi-talented Vanessa Williams, Jann Arden, Jesse Cook and Gowan of the band Styx will be performing at The Rose.

Craig Martin’s Classic Albums Live, made up of some of Canada’s finest virtuosos will be staging great classic rock and soul music note for note and cut for cut.

Across The Pond: The British Invasion will feature Leisa Way and the sensationally talented Lonely Hearts Club Band who will rock thrilling hits from Britain’s music royalty like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks, Elton John and more!
