NEW DELHI: Greeting Pakistani Hindus on the occasion of Diwali on Wednesday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that he was the prime minister of all communities and will protect all the religious communities.

“Every community living here whether Hindu, Muslim or Parsi, belongs to me and I belong to them. I am the prime minister of all communities,’’ AAP quoted Nawaz Sharif as addressing a Hindu gathering at the Governor’s House in Karachi to mark Diwali.

Sharif’s remarks must assure the Pakistani Hindu community which recently protested outside the Pakistani parliament over the kidnapping and forced conversion of Hindu girls in Sindh. According to the Pakistan Human Right Commission, 25 to 30 Hindu girls are kidnapped and forcibly converted each month in the country.

The Pakistani prime minister assured the Hindus, saying, “It’s my duty to help and facilitate you. If you are in distress, I will stand with you. Even if a Muslim commits an injustice, I will stand with the victim.”

In another goodwill gesture to the Hindu and Sikh communities, Sharif also announced the construction of the Bhagat Kunwar Ram Medical Complex in Hyderabad and the renovation of Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Nankana Sahib which is the birthplace of Sikhim founder Guru Nanak.
