BRAMPTON: With the Ontario Science Table warning that the new Indian variant (Delta B.1617) is set to become the dominate variant in four weeks, Peel authorities are rushing the second dose to prevent a fourth wave of the pandemic.
As 115 cases of the Indian variant have already been confirmed in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon, the second dose for seniors is being rushed.
Starting Monday, residents aged 70 and over, who received a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine on or before April 18, can book their second dose through Ontario’s vaccine booking system or by calling 1-833-943-3900 (TTY 1-866-797-0007).
Some pharmacies and primary care providers will also offer eligible residents their second dose this weekend if supply allows.
Two doses of vaccine are a must for defence and increased protection against the Indian variant.
First doses for 12-year-olds and older who have not already booked are also available this weekend at Peel clinics.
Urging residents to book their second dose, Monica Hau, Associate Medical Officer of Health, warned, “The Peel community has worked too hard to lose what we have regained to yet another variant. We need to move quickly to provide second doses to residents to stay ahead of the new Delta variant and prevent a fourth wave in Peel, which ultimately helps prevent a fourth wave across Ontario.”
