Another arrest in stick beating murder of Brampton Indo-Canadian Paviter Singh Bassi

BRAMPTON: Peel Regional Police have arrested the third suspect in connection with the murder of Brampton Indo-Canadian youth Paviter Singh Bassi, 21, who was beaten to death with sticks on March 19.

Gurraj Bassi, 21, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder on Friday. He is the cousin of Karanvir Singh Bassi who also was arrested for this murder on March 20.  Both of them are not related to the victim.

Another suspect Guryodh Singh Khattra, 22, was taken into custody on March 21. With this, all three suspects in the connection with the murder are in police custody.

According to Peel Police, the 21-year-old victim was found with life-threatening injuries on March 19 when cops responded to an assault taking place on the grounds of Sandalwood Heights Secondary School in the area of Sandalwood Parkway East and Cedarcliff Trail in Brampton in the evening. After beating the victim with sticks, the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle.

The victim with severe head injuries was rushed to a Toronto Trauma Centre, but he succumbed to his injuries on March 20.

This is the eighth case of homicide in Peel Region.
