BRAMPTON: Brampton Councillor Gurpreet Dhillon has opposed hike staff salary in the city’s budget for 2018m approved by City Council on Wednesday.
“Though I am excited about the growth of the city through new jobs, projects and initiatives, I am disappointed in the $21.6 million in staff salary increases and lack of cuts made in the budget,’’ said Councillor Dhillon who voted against the salary hike.
The Sikh councillor said, “With the elimination of a number high profile jobs that occurred since September 2016, there should have been more in the budget to cover these new positions.”
Councillor Dhillon also voted against allocation of $1.5 million to the Brampton Beast hockey team for a three-year period and hike in bus fares from $3.75 to $4.
Earlier, Councillor Dhillon’s motion to cut seniors’ monthly bus pass from $52 to $15 was defeated.
