Nevada-based American Hindu leader and priest Rajan Zed has urged Walmart to immediately withdraw `Ganesh Toe Ring’ from sale from its website, calling it highly inappropriate.
Urging Walmart CEO Doug McMillon and Walmart Board Chairman Gregory B. Penner to withdraw `Ganesh Toe Ring’ from sale and offer a formal apology to Hindus, Zed said Lord Ganesh is revered in Hinduism and meant to be worshipped in temples or home shrines and not to adorn one’s toe. Inappropriate usage of Hindu deities or symbols for commercial hurts the devotees.
He said it was not the first time that Walmart has offered products which were deemed offensive by Hindu devotees. Another inappropriate product involving Lord Ganesh being sold at Walmart.com was Shri Ganesha Belly Button Ring,’ he said.
`Ganesh Toe Ring’, described as .925 Sterling Silver, is selling at Walmart.com for $8.99 and Shri Ganesha Belly Button Ring” in gold and silver colours sells for $14.99.
