Toronto LOVEBIRDS 2016: 10 duets plus one wildcard entry make it to quarterfinals

TORONTO: In the first ever search for the Dancing Superstar Duet in Toronto, ten duos have made it to the second stage.

The following ten duets plus one wildcard entry will now enter the Viewer’s Choice Audience Poll segment when their videos will be uploaded on YouTube and social media and be judged by Lovebirds2016 online judge Ruchi Kumar, trained Bollywood jazz instructor with SHIAMAK Toronto and former first runner up in Miss India Canada.

Presented by TK Connections and sponsored by San Souci on December 19, LIVE auditions were held in Mississauga where more than 30 duets participated presenting an array of dance forms including Salsa, Brazilian, Bollywood, Bhangra and Gidda.

“There was energy, oomph, enthusiasm and diversity,” say organizers. “We wanted to provide partners an opportunity to display their dazzling and brilliant talent in this one of a kind dance competition that allows couples to express their creativity for diverse dance forms through teamwork.”

The LIVE auditions held at the TAG TV studios on Drew Road were judged by stalwarts from the Performing Arts industry including Puja Amin, founder of Sanskriti Arts Ensemble; Divya Gowda, founder of DK Bollywood Dance; Miss Sohni, Creative Director, Academy of Cre8ive Arts; Renee Delgado, Artistic Director and Co-Founder of United Salseros; and Tushar Unadkat, CEO and Creative Director of Mukta Advertising and Founder and Executive Director of Nouveau iDEA.

“We want the duets who have made so far it to create a buzz with their own social media skills,” say organizers.

Five duets will be finalized and will perform to win the coveted title at LoveBirds2016, The Valentine Night on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Verdi Banquet Hall, 3550 Derry Rd E, Mississauga in front of an audience of over 500 people. The winning team will be awarded a cash prize of $1500 and one lucky duet will also get the opportunity to be part of a music video in an upcoming artist’s album.

The February event is packed with emotional and powerful performances by renowned world artists including Vikas Khanna, Kate Todd, Shyamala Ram, R&B United Band as well as a host of other presentations.

“February is a time for love with Valentine’s Day and what better time that this to bring forth such an inventive and innovative project. Through dance, we want duets to focus on each other, create an aura of excitement and showcase their creativity.
