BRAMPTON: Brampton residents face an extra 2.7 percent property tax in 2018.
The city budget passed on Wednesday entails 1.7 percent hike in property tax. Since Region of Peel has also raised property tax by 1 percent, Brampton residents will have to pay extra 2.7 percent on property tax.
For a household worth $471,000, the tax increase works out to be $126 annually.
The city will introduce 31 new buses and 34 new Züm buses to expand bus rapid transit and improve connections to regional transit.
STEM (Engineering and Robotic) recreation programs for children aged 3 to 14 will also be launched.
Mayor Linda Jaffrey said, “This budget underlines that City Council is committed to enhancing services that matter to our citizens, such as transit, fire safety and recreation, while also laying the foundation for key strategic initiatives including a new university and enhancing regional transit connections. ‘’
