A 66-year-old American man has been jailed for 12 months for smuggling child pornography into Canada.

Eugene Williams of Houlton, Maine, has been sentenced by the Woodstock Provincial Court after pleading guilty to smuggling child pornography following an investigation by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

He was arrested in June last year.

Williams arrived at the Woodstock, New Brunswick border crossing, on April 10, 2018, seeking entry into Canada. He was referred for secondary examination. During his examination, numerous digital devices were confiscated and he was denied entry to Canada.

The examination of the electronic devices seized from him showed images of child pornography. Williams was charged with smuggling pornography under section 159 of the Customs Act.

William was arrested on June 18, 2019, when he again tried to enter Canada.
