Baby born mid-air on Air Canada when the flight was 36,000 feet over the Pacific Ocean and the mother didn’t even know that she was pregnant

TORONTO: A Canadian woman, who was 37-week pregnant, gave birth to a baby girl mid-air on an Air Canada flight from Calgary to Tokyo on Sunday.

The flight was 36,000 feet over the Pacific Ocean when the baby suddenly came out.

Amazingly, the woman – who has been identified as 23-year-old Ada Guan – and her boyfriend Wesley Branch from Victoria didn’t even know that she was pregnant.

“She (Ada Guan) told me, ‘Something fell out of me.’ I lifted up her pants and I saw a head and then I heard, ‘Wah.’ I thought, ‘Oh my god, I think we have a kid,’’ the proud dad Branch was quoted as saying.

“I couldn’t imagine. This happened completely unexpectedly. It turned out to be a beautiful baby girl.’’

There were three doctors on the long-haul flight and one of them helped deliver the baby. The couple were upgraded to first class from the economy class for the delivery of the baby.

But what is even more bizarre is that the woman’s pregnancy was not detected when she took a test to confirm whether she was pregnant. Doesn’t it speak volumes about the state of medical profession in Canada?

So what would be the country of birth of this baby born mid-air? Will she be a Japanese citizen because she first landed on earth in Tokyo?
