73-year-old Amarjit Bhatnagar from India murdered in Brampton; 15-year-old boy arrested

BRAMPTON: A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with the murder of 73-year-old Amarjit Singh Bhatnagar in Brampton.

Bhatnagar, from Ropar in india, had come to Canada on April 14 to spend six months with elder son Jaspinder Singh in Brampton.

The victim was walking with another family member through Aloma Park in the area of Aloma Crescent and Avondale Boulevard in Brampton at about 10 pm on Tuesday, June 12, when they were attacked by two males who robbed them of some personal possessions and fled the area.

Bhatnagar sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital. He succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, June 14.

Peel Police have arrested a 15-year-old male from Brampton and charged him with murder and robbery.

The Youth Criminal Justice Act prohibits the release of the name of the accused.

This is the 12th murder of the year in Peel region.
