TORONTO: The Toronto Vaisakhi parade on Sunday saw a record crowd turning up to enjoy the festivities in Nathan Phillips Square on a sunny Sunday.

Though Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, opposition PC Party leader Doug Ford and Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath showed up to deliver their speeches, only Jagmeet Singh from any federal politicians joined the celebrations.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in Toronto to join the evening vigil for the victims of the van attack, but he skipped the Vaisakhi parade. Instead, Innovation minister Navdeep Bains read Trudeau’s message to the gathering.

Federal Conservative leader Andrew Scheer also didn’t attend. His message was read by MP Bob Saroya.

Toronto Mayor John Tory was the first speaker at the Vaisakhi parade.
