Surrey Indo-Canadian Harpreet Singh was arrested after the RCMP found three family members – Jagjit Singh, Baljit Kaur and a two-year-old child – suffering from injuries, with the woman later succumbing to her injuries

SURREY: Harpreet Singh of the Newton area of Surrey has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

Surrey RCMP were called just before 9 pm on October 20 about a stabbing inside of a residence in the 12700-block of 66 Avenue.

Officers found three people – Jagjit Singh, Baljit Kaur and a two-year-old child – suffering from injuries.

All three were transported to the hospital where Baljit Kaur succumbed to her injuries.

Harpreet Singh, who fled from the scene, was soon arrested by the RCMP. He has been charged with one count of second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

Sgt. Frank Jang, spokesman of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) which took over the probe, said it was  “a verbal altercation involving family members that ultimately ended with the tragic loss of a life.”

Harpreet Singh remains in custody.
