MISSISSAUGA: A job scam has come to light at Toronto Pearson International Airport, offering employment at the airport.
In a statement on Friday, the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) which runs the airport, has warned, “We’ve recently become aware of a scam where job seekers are being offered fake employment at the airport. The scammers are offering fraudulent positions such as electrical engineer or security officer and in some cases are demanding payment from the job seeker in exchange for the position.”
Warning people not to fall prey to the job scam, the statement said that the GTAA or companies operating at Toronto airport never ask for payment in exchange for jobs.
“If you’re asked for money as part of a job offer, do not make a payment and report the scam to either Peel Regional Police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. To spot a scam, look for spelling errors in the employment offer.”
Interrestingly, the scamsters have named the hiring company as Toronto Pearson Airport & Hotels, or Toronto Pearson International Airport Inc.
But “these are not real companies,” the statement warns.
