India population 2050 projections show it will surpass China to become the most populous country in the world

LONDON: India will have 1.6 billion people by 2050 and replace China as the world’s most populous country. China will 1.3 billion people by then.
And the world’s population will grow to 9.7 billion by 2050 from 7.1 billion today. By the end of the 21st century, there will be up to 11 billion people on this planet.
By 2050, Nigeria with 444 million people will become the third most populous country, replacing the US which will 400 million people.
These projections have been made in a bi-annual report by the French Institute of Demographic Studies (Ined).
China (1.3 billion), India (1.2 billion), the US (316.2 million), Indonesia (248.5 million) and Brazil (195.5 million) are the five most populous countries on this planet as of now.
The study projects Asia, which currently has 4.3 billion people, to have 5.2 billion people by 2050. Both North and South Americas will have 1.2 billion people by the middle of the century. Currently, the Americas have a total population of 958 million.
