Brampton Indo-Canadian Jarnail Randhawa murders wife and faces second-degree charges, say police

BRAMPTON: A 64-year-old Punjabi man has been arrested for the murder of his wife in Brampton.
Jarnail Randhawa was arrested on Thursday morning for allegedly murdering Dalbir Randhawa – his wife who was also 64 years old.
Randhawa remains in custody and will be charged with second degree murder, says Peel Police.
The murder took place on Wednesday evening – June 2 – when police received a call at about 9 pm for an unconscious female found on a trail near Ross Road and Temple Hill Road in Brampton.
Upon reaching the scene, police officers found the woman – later identified as Dalbir Randhawa – suffering from obvious signs of trauma. Paramedics attempted to revive her, but she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Police quickly sealed the area to find the cause which led to the death.
“The couple went for a walk earlier that evening and failed to return. Some circumstances must have unfolded which caused this altercation in which he took her life,” Peel Police spokesperson Const. Danny Marttini told the media.
“We were trying to make contact him (the husband) as soon as we were processing our investigation. He did contact police and we were able to effect the arrest and bring him into custody this morning,” Const. Danny Marttini said.
About the cause of the woman’s death, she said, “We won’t get into it yet. Remember it is very sensitive and traumatic for the family and this is not something anybody wants to go through. We’re just dealing with it on a step by step basis. We really want to show some sympathy to the family as they deal with this.”
Asked about the woman’s quick death, Const. Danny Marttini said, “It’s hard to say what kind of violence exactly would have occurred. Whatever occurred between these two individuals, it was obviously very fast, it was very traumatic.”
Const. Danny Marttini said Jarnail Randhawa suffered minor injuries during the altercation with his wife. Police took him to hospital for treatment before formally arresting him.
The homicide buereau continues its investigation of the case.
“This was a tragic loss of life which will carry rippling impacts for family, friends, and our community. Our sincere condolences to all those affected by this tragedy and the loss of Dalbir Randhawa,” said Peel Regional Police Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich.
