Khattra was among 5 Indo-Canadians arrested for the beating death of 21-year-old Bassi in Brampton in March 2018

BRAMPTON: Guryodh Singh Khattra, 26, who was killed in a targeted shooting in Brampton on September 23, was one of the accused in the beating death of Paviter Singh Bassi in Brampton in March 2018.
Khattra was the only one still facing trial in the case as the other accused have already pleaded guilty to lesser charges and been sentenced.
During the Bassi murder trial, Khattra’s lawyer argued that someone else, not Khattra, was involved in the murder of Bassi.
Khattra was targeted just a day after he was granted a rare motion by a Brampton judge to prove his innocence in the murder of Paviter Singh Bassi.
Paviter Singh Bassi, 21, was killed when he was attacked with sticks in the area of Sandalwood Parkway East and Cedarcliff Trail in Brampton in the evening of March 19 in 2018. He was rushed to a Toronto Trauma Centre where he succumbed to his injuries.
Five persons were arrested after the murder of Bassi.
While Karanvir Singh Bassi, 22, Guryodh Singh Khattra, 23, Gurraj Bassi, 20, and Harminder Bassi, 24, were arrested immiedtaely, Harman Singh, 23, of Caledon was arrested on June 27, 2018.
They were all charged with first-degree murder.

The shooting targeting Khattra happened at about 4.45 pm at a residence on Rushbrook Drive in Brampton on September 23.
Upon arrival, police located Guryodh Khattra and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite life saving efforts of first responders, Khattra succumbed to his injuries on the scene.
The woman was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Three suspects fled the area in a Grey Hyundai Tuscon.
Shortly after the shooting, police received a call at 5 pm that a vehicle was on fire in the area of Grenoble Boulevard and Williams Parkway in Brampton.
When police arrived on scene, they located the vehicle which was abandoned.
It’s suspect the vehicle may possibly be related to the shooting.
