TORONTO: In the on-going trial of Indo-Canadian woman Gurpreet Ronald, who allegedly conspired with her lover Bhupinderpal Gill to kill his (Gill’s wife) in January 2014, startlingly details are emerging.

Gurpreet, 37, and Gill, 40, who were fellow bus drivers with Ottawa’s OC Transpo and neighbours, were allegedly in a relationship. They conspired to kill Gill’s wife Jagtar, 43, so that they could be together.

Jagtar, the mother of Gill’s three children, was stabbed and bludgeoned to death in her home in the Barrhaven are of Ottawa on January 29, 2014. The day was also her 17th wedding anniversary. A day before her killing, the victim had a hernia surgery.

On the day of the murder, Gill’s two children went to school and his teenage eldest daughter stayed home to be with her mother who had a hernia operation a day earlier.

But Gill managed to convince his teenage daughter to come with him for shopping, leaving Jagtar alone. It was then when Gurpreet Ronald entered the couple’s home and murdered Jagtar Gill by slashing her neck and left wrist, stabbing her in the stomach and smashing her head with a weightlifting metal bar.

The trial of the two accused started in the Ontario Superior Court in Ottawa last month.

On Wednesday, Ottawa police constable Tina Gallichon, who was the first to reach the crime scene, testified that when she was speaking to Gill at the crime scene, she saw Gurpreet Ronald approaching the house.

The police constable said when she told Gurpreet that Jagtar was dead, she started crying, `Jagtar, Jagtar.’
When the prosecution asked the constable if it was Gurpreet, she said, “Yes, it’s Mrs. Ronald.”

On Monday, a psychic, whom Gurpreet and Gill had visited to know their future together, also testified in the case.

Under cross-examination by Gurpreet’s lawyer, psychic Susanne Shields said that Gurpreet and Gill visited her and that she had a three-hour counselling session for them for the first time.

The psychic said she told Gurpreet that she (Gurpreet) had 68 past lives. In one of those 68 lives, Gurpreet was with her current husband Jason Ronald with whom she has two children.

The psychic also told Gurpreet that she had the power to talk to the dead, including Gurpreet’s mother.

In another session with her, the psychic said, “Gurpreet said she wanted to commit suicide because she was so distraught. I told her she has two kids and she needs to think about them.’’
