MISSISSAUGA: A Mississauga woman is lucky that she managed to get out of the clutches of her kidnapper who offered her a lift in his car to take her home.
Police have arrested a 22-year-old man from Brampton who tried to kidnap the woman in broad daylight.
The incident happened on Friday, May 21, at about 4 pm when the 32-year-old Mississauga woman was walking in the area of Hurontario Street and Eglinton Avenue West. When she walked past a 2015 blue Honda Civic, an unknown man approached her and asked if he could use her phone. The woman gave him her phone to use, and he proceeded to ask if she needed a ride home, to which she agreed.
Once she got inside the vehicle, the man drove her off in the opposite direction of the woman’s residence. During the drive, the man assaulted the woman multiple times, preventing her from exiting the car.
However, she finally managed to escape from the car in the area of Godwick Drive and Atwood Lane in Mississauga. She suffered minor injuries but did not require medical attention.
Investigators identified and arrested Diavion Henningham, 22, of Brampton. He is described as black, 5’7”, 140 lbs, slim build with black hair in cornrows.
He has been charged with forcible confinement and robbery and is being held in custody for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
Toronto Police have confirmed a smiliar incident involving the same man on May 23. He was driving a white Honda Civic in that incident and was charged with attempted kidnapping.
