Harnaaz Sandhu, 21, of India has been crowned as the new Miss Universe.
Harnaaz, who comes from Chandigarh, beat out Miss Paraguay and Miss South Africa to win the world beauty pageant held in Eilat, Israel.
She shouted “Chak de Phatte India” after winning the beauty pageant.
The 70th edition of the Miss Universe contest had 80 contestants.
Harnaaz is the third Indian beauty queen to win the Miss Universe title after Sushmita Sen (1994) and Lara Dutta (2000).
She is also the first Sikh woman to win the global pageant.
Another Sikh woman Manpreet Brar was the first runner-up at the 1995 Miss Universe contest.
A model, Harnaaz has also acted in Punjabi movies Bai Ji Kuttange and Yaara Diyan Paun Baran.
In 2017, she was chosen Times Fresh Face. Harnaaz also won the 2021 LIVA Miss Diva Universe 2021 title.
Currently, she is doing her masters in public adminitration.
