Pooja Bhatt says their split after 11 years is amicable

MUMBAI: Actress and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt, 42, has dropped the bombshell in Bollywood.
On Monday, the dare-bare actress-filmmaker announced the end of her 11-year-old marriage to funny man Manish Makhija on Twitter.
“To all those who care & especially those that don’t, my husband Munna (Manish Makhija) and me have decided to part ways after 11 glorious years of marriage. Our split as some might call it is amicable & we hold each other in the highest esteem for now and forever (sic),” Pooja tweeted.
“Our friends, well-wishers & foes are free to now speculate.’’
Later, Pooja told a tabloid, “I’ve never minced words or shied away from the truth. I am my father’s daughter.’’

Her father Mahesh Bhatt stood by her decision, saying, “Pooja was brave enough to proclaim the demise of an 11-year-old marriage on Twitter.’’
The father said, “I was not consulted at any stage. It is a decision taken by two consenting adults.”
Mahesh Bhatt has always been sceptical about the institution of marriage.“Some believe that marriage is an institution that lasts a lifetime, even extends to future lives. But while they may continue with a loveless union, some of us are graceful enough to admit that a relationship is not working out. Whatever is born dies and whatever is there also dies,” Mumbai Mirror quoted him as saying.
Pooja and Manish Makhija on the sets of Paap which she directed. They fell in love and secretly married in August 2003 in a temple in Goa.
Makhija became famous for his role as funny rustic Udham Singh on music Channel V.
