MUMBAI: Bollywood drama queen Rakhi Sawant on Friday launched her own political party called Rashtriya Aam Party (RAAP).
Seeking green chilli as the symbol for her party, Rakhi said she is filing nomination papers from the Mumbai North-West parliament constituency.
“I am neither an orphan politician nor an independent. Now I have my own party. I am the vice-president,” said Rakhi, unveiling her party’s name.
Wearing green chilly-shaped earrings, she said she is seeking green chilli as the symbol for her party because green chilli “resembles her persona.”
Rakhi said, “I will give my last drop of blood to serve the common people (dukhi janata) and provide an alternative as people are are fed up with corruption.”
The drama queen had announced on Wednesday to quit the entertainment industry and jumped into politics just before the Lok Sabha polls next month.
A fan of BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Rakhi said she is leaving the film industry and entering politics to serve the common man and fight for women’s honour and safety.
The controversial drama queen of Bollywood faces Gurudas Kamat of the Congress, Gajanan Kirtikar of the Shiv Sena, Mahesh Manjrekar of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, and Mayank Gandhi of the Aam Aadmi Party in the Mumbai North-West constituency.
