India’s Most Wanted show’s one-time famous host Suhaib Ilyasi has been jailed for life for murdering his wife.

Delhi’s Additional Sessions Judge S.K. Malhotra on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment toIlyasi for the murder of his wife Anju 17 years ago. He was one of the most famous faces on Indian television when the crime happened.

The court also ordered him to pay Rs 10 lakh (Rs one million) to the family of his wife and fined him Rs 2 lakh.
Anju was found stabbed to dead with multiple wounds in her Mayur Vihar house in east Delhi on January 11, 2000. She was 30 at the time of her death.

Initially, Ilyasi told police that his wife had committed even as the victim’s mother and sister insisted that Anju was driven to suicide by Ilyasi for dowry harassment.

Further investigation led the police to arrest him three months late.

Though the trial court rejected demand by the victim’s mother Rukma Singh that Ilyasi should face murder charges, the Delhi High Court in 2014 ordered his trial for murder.

After release from initial arrest in the case, Ilyasi had launched another show and later edited a magazine called Bureaucracy Today.
