BRAMPTON: Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Special Victims Unit have charged a religious leader in relation to a sexual assault investigation.
On Monday, March 3, the accused went to the victim’s residence to perform a religious ceremony, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.
On Friday, March 7, Ashok Shamra, a 69-year-old man from Brampton, was arrested and charged with one count of sexual assault.
He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton at a later date.
Sharma has been a religious leader in the Brampton community for several years and investigators believe there may be additional victims.
