BRAMPTON: Gurjot Dhaliwal, 20, of Bathinda district in Punjab, has been identified as the victim of the shooting in Brampton on June 19.
Responding to a 911 call from the area of Orenda Court and McCallum Court in Brampton, when Peel Police officers reached the spot they found the victim with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a trauma centre where he succumbed to his injuries.
Gurjot Singh, who hails from Thamangarh village in Maur sub-division of Bathinda district, came as a student to Canada last year. He is survived by his mother and a sister.
India’s external affairs minister S. Jaishankar expressed his condolences to the bereaved family, adding that the Indian consulate general in Toronto was helping in the repatriation of Gurjot’s body.

Gurjot is the seventh homicide victim in Brampton this year.
