BRAMPTON: Two persons have been arrested and charged with the murder of Indo-Canadian man Tanveer Sidhu of Mississauga on October 5.
Sidhu, 28, was found with gunshot wounds when police were called to a residence on Yately Street in Brampton on October 5 early in the mornng at about 4.35 am. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau identified two people involved in the incident.
After a Canada-wide warrant was issued against him, Khalile Silveira of Mississauga was arrested along with his female companion Alantai Morrison in Toronto on October 8.
Khalile Silveira, 22, has been charged with second degree murder, possession of a firearm, and human trafficking, among other things.
Alantai Morrison, a 22-year-old woman from Mississauga, has been charged with what police called “accessory after the fact to murder.”
Both the accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on October 9.
“This incident reinforces the narrative that our communities are suffering the consequences of violent crime committed with illegal firearms. It is the outcome of an equation which includes interim release of dangerous offenders with a history of criminal activity. At the time this homicide took place, Silveira was the subject of 3 bail recognizances. One of which placed him on house arrest. It is a dangerous trend which inhibits our (police) ability to mitigate community risk and prevent the tragic results we are seeing far too often. We need to do better to protect our communities,” said Peel Regional Police Chief Duraiappah.
“This marks the second homicide our community suffered this week. The first was the result of domestic/intimate partner violence. This incident is the result of illegal firearms in the hands of a violent criminal also alleged to be involved in human trafficking. Arrests and charges within days serve as a testament to the quality of our investigative teams, our communities refusal to accept this violence, and affirmation of the priorities we have selected for our service,” said Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich.
