BAPS temple in Windsor sprayed with anti-India, anti-Modi graffiti as police hunt for two suspects

TORONTO: Yet another Hindu temple in Canada has been desecrted by hatemongers.

The BAPS Temple on Northway Avenue in Windsor was vandalized at about midnight on Wednesday with anti-India graffiti.

“On April 5, 2023, officers were dispatched to a Hindu temple in the 1700 block of Northway Avenue following a report of hate-motivated vandalism. Officers discovered anti-Hindu and anti-India graffiti sprayed in black on an exterior wall of the building,” said a statement by the Windsor Police Service.

A video from the scene showed two suspects entering the temple area just before 12 am, with one suspect spraying the graffiti and the other keeping watch.

While one suspect wore a black sweater, black pants with a small white logo on the left leg, and black and white high-top running shoes. The second suspect wore black pants, a sweatshirt black shoes, and white socks.

Codemning the latest act of vandalism at a Hindu temple in Canada, the Indian High Commission in Ottawa said, “We have taken up with the Canadian authorities the hateful act of putting anti India graffiti on the walls of BAPS Swaminarayan temple in Windsor. We strongly condemn this act of vandalism.”

This is the third incident of desecration of a Hindu temple in Canada this year. While a Hindu temple in Brampton was defaced with anti-India graffiti triggering in January, the Ram Mandir in Mississauga was sprayed with anti-India, anti-Modi graffiti in February.
