TORONTO: If the federal elections were held today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party would lose to the Conservative Party.

As the poll campaign enters the second half, a new survey by the Canadian Press says that 34 percent of the decided voters say that they would support the Conservative Party, as against 30 percent who support the Liberal Party. It means Erin O’Toole could be the next prime minister if these Canadian election trends hold.

The Liberals had a lead of over five percent over the Conservatives when Trudeau called a snap election on August 15.

Interestingly, there is also a four percent jump – from 20 percent to 24 percent – in support for Jagmeet Singh’s New Democratic Party (NDP) since the start of the poll campaign on August 16.

Canadians go the polls on September 20 to elect 338 MPs for the House of Commons. Any party needs the majority mark of 170 to form government.
