TORONTO: In another incident of defacing of a Hindu temple in Canada, Gauri Shankar Mandir in Brampton has been defaced with anti-India graffiti.
Taking up the matter with Canadian authorities, the Indian Consulate General in Toronto said, “We strongly condemn the defacing of Gauri Shankar Mandir in Brampton,a symbol of Indian heritage, with anti-India graffiti. The hateful act of vandalism has deeply hurt sentiments of the Indian community in Canada. We have raised our concerns on the matter with Canadian authorities.,a symbol of Indian heritage, with anti-India graffiti. Condemning the defacing of the temple, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said, “This hateful act of vandalism has no place in our City or Country. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their place worship.”
The latest incident of defacing of a Hindu temple in Brampton, which is home to the biggest concentration of Indians in Canada, comes after the defacing of a city park which was renamed Gita Park last October, though the authorities denied it.
Pro-Khalistan elements had last September vandalised the famous BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Toronto by spray-painting its gates with ‘Hindustan Murdabad’ and ‘Khalistan.’
No one has been arrested for those incidents so far.
