BRAMPTON: The Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICC) will soon sign a MoU with Brampton to promote the city in India.
“We have met Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown for this purpose and discussed how Brampton can be promoted among businesses and investors in India,” said ICCC president Murarilal Thapliyal.
He said they also discussed the building of a cricket stadium in Brampton.
“The Mayor is very eager to have a cricket stadium in his city because Brampton and the GTA have a huge population of people from cricket-playing countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, etc.,” he said.
“Personally, I am interested that this sport takes root in Canada. We already have a few teams in Brampton and I am also the president of the Canadian Academy of Cricket which develops cricketing skills among young people from the ages of five to 19.”
During their upcoming mission to India, Murarilal said, the ICCC team would have discussions with Indian investors to build the cricket stadium in Brampton in partnership with Canadian companies.
He said the Chamber has also held preliminary discussions with Trillium Foundation to explore the possibilities of collaboration in health and medical equipment sectors with Indian medical institutions in various fields such as Ayurveda.
Murarilal will lead the ICCC mission to India from January 27 to February 9.
“We will meet six chief ministers during our trade mission. We will be visiting Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Guwahati, Dehradun and Chandigarh. We are going to places like Dehradun and Guwahati because these two states offer immense possibilities for collaboration with Canadian companies in various fields,” the ICCC president said.
Under Murarilal, the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce in the process of buying a new building in Oakville to serve as its new headquarters.
“We are on the verge of finalizing the deal for the building. It offers a lot of space and it will much more centrally located for our members to gather,” he said.
The Chamber is also in the process of opening more chapters across Canada.
“We have already launched our Edmonton chapter. Soon we will launching two new chapters in Montreal and Calgary,” Murarilal said.
He said he wants to make the Indo-Canada of Commerce a Canada-wide organization.
“We plan to have at least 10 chapters by the end of this year.”
The Chamber will also be resuming its annual gala event from June this year.
“These are some of the many things we have in the pipeline this year,” said Murarilal.
