BRAMPTON: Three Indo-Canadian Punjabi men have been arrested for a series of group stick fights in Brampton between December 2017 and June this year.
Arrest warrants have also been issued against six other Indo-Canadian Punjabi men.
Violent fights between the Punjabi groups took place near Sheridan College and Shoppers World in Brampton. The incidents were captured on video and circulated on social media, causing public outrage.
In the first ugly fight in a city plaza on December 10, groups of Punjabi men fought with sticks and used choicest Punjabi expletives, sending shock waves in the Indo-Canadian community, with area MPs and residents asking for strict action against the culprits. This was followed by other incidents in which groups of Punjabi men violently fought with one another.
It was alleged at that time that many international students from Punjab were involved in these fights.
After investigations, Peel Police have arrested three Indo-Canadian men. They are Gurpreet Singh, 31, Lovepreet Singh, 19, and Arpinder Gill. All three are from Brampton.
Police have also issued arrest warrants against six other Indo-Canadian men. They are:
— Parminder Singh Dhali, 30.
— Jatinder Singh Cheema, 25.
— Vishavjeet Singh, 21.
— Opinderjeet Sandhu, 20.
— Amritpal Singh Kamboj, 21.
— Raja Waraich Raja, 37.
They are wanted on charges of assault, assault with a weapon, extortion, possessing weapons, break and enter and uttering death threats.
Police say the investigations are still on.
