BRAMPTON: The annual Vaisakhi celebrations by the Indo-Canadian Arts and Culture Initiative (ICACI) at Culinary Stars in Brampton was an evening full of entertainment and fun.
The highlight of the evening were dance performances of bhangra and gidda and Punjabi Fashion show by Poornima Creations. Popular singers Parmjit Hans and Fouzia Khan enthralled the audience with their Punjabi songs.
The gathering, which included Brampton Councillor Harkirat Singh and Punjabi Community Health Services CEO Baldev Mutta, was also treated to mouth-watering snacks and dinner.
Apart from entertainment, food and fun, it was a great evening for networking and socializing.
Founded four years ago by community activist Mokshi Virk, the Indo-Canadian Arts and Culture Initiative as a non-profit helps people in personal and professional success by organizing events, workshops and cultural and community activities.
It promotes and raise awareness about the rich art and culture of India by organizing festival events and `culture days.’
“We at Indo-Canadian Arts and Culture Initiative (ICACI) have been regularly organizing different events and programs to engage our youth, women and newcomers to be a part of our GTA community,’’ says founder-director Virk who was most recently honoured with the Community Leader award by the City of Brampton.
Virk, who has also been involved with other non-profits and charities such as GTA Northwest Community Health Services and LANGAR SEVA, has been invited as a guest speaker by ACCESS Employment to share her experiences with new immigrants.
A realtor by profession, she has also spoken about `Role of Mentorship’ at the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) and other fora.
