BRAMPTON: Manoharan Ponnuthurai of Brampton, who has playing the lottery for the past 30 years, has won the $70 million Lotto Max jackpot from a December draw.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), which runs the jackpot, says 54-year-old Ponnuthurai won the fortune from the December 17 Lotto Max draw.
The OLG released a statement quoting Ponnuthurai as saying, “I checked the ticket, and one, two, three, four numbers, I’m so shaky and I couldn’t continue.”
He called his wife and children to come with him to check the numbers once again. It is then they realized that they are new multimillionaires.
“I’ve got everything. I feel like everything, I have now. What I wanted. My dream come true,” Ponnuthurai has been quoted as saying.
He said, “I had many dreams about winning it ‘big’ one day and a few times I came close.”
The Brampton man says he will use the money to buy a new home and travel around Europe and visit beaches.
Ponnuthurai runs a small manufacturing company, with several employees.
