TORONTO: Dumb blondes! Everybody has heard blonde jokes, portraying them as dumb.
But are blondes actually dumb or is it just another stereo?
Yes, it is just another stereotype.
A new study shows that blondes actually have higher IQ than other women.
The study at the Ohio State University in the US says the “dumb blonde” stereotype is simply wrong. On the contrary, the average IQ of blondes is actually slightly higher than those with other women, according to this study.
The study of 10,878 Americans showed that blonde women had an average IQ of 103.2, compared to 102.7 for women with brown hair, 101.2 for women with red hair and 100.5 for women with black hair.
The study also showed that blonde women were slightly more likely to be in the highest IQ category than those with other hair colors, and slightly less likely to be in the lowest IQ category.
“Research shows that stereotypes often have an impact on hiring, promotions and other social experiences,” study author Jay Zagorsky said.
“This study provides compelling evidence that there shouldn’t be any discrimination against blondes based on their intelligence.”
Zagorsky, who is a research scientist at the university’s Center for Human Resource Research, added, “I don’t think you can say with certainty that blondes are smarter than others, but you can definitely say they are not any dumber.”
The study, which has been published the journal Economics Bulletin, also showed that men with blond hair also had IQ roughly equal to men with other hair colours.
