Brampton Indo-Canadian arrested for murder of wife, mother-in-law

BRAMPTON: Indo-Canadian man Dalwinder Singh, 29, has been arrested for the murder of his 32-year-old wife Baljit Thandi and hisĀ  60-year-old mother-in-law Avtar Kaur in Brampton on Friday night.

Police were called to a house in Starhill Crescent, north of Dixie Road and Sandalwood Parkway, in Brampton at about 10.45 pm on Friday.

When the cops reached there, they found the two women deceased with fatal stab wounds.

Police arrested Dalwinder Singh and charged him with two counts of second-degree murder. The fourth person in the house was a child who was unhurt. Police have sent the child in the care of the Children’s Aid Society.

These are the first two cases of homicide in Peel region, which includes Brampton and Mississauga, in the New Year.

The third incident of homicide in which a 61-year-old woman died happened in Mississauga early Saturday morning at about 1 am.

When cops reached a house in Marmac Crescent, south of Winston Churchill Boulevard and Burnhamthorpe Road West, they found a woman in distress. She was later pronounced dead. A 61-year-old, who was injured in an interaction with police, was arrested. He has been charged with first-degree murder. One of the two minor children suffered minor injuries. The two children were taken to hospital.

The Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding injuries sustained by the 61-year-old man.

A SIU press release said, “Soon after arriving at the residence, there was an interaction between police officers and the man. The man was taken into custody and subsequently transported to hospital where he was diagnosed with a serious injury.”
