TORONTO: New Democratic Party (NDP)  leader Jagmeet Singh, on whose party’s support the minority government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau depends to survive, said on Tuesday that there is “clear evidence” of India’s role in the killing of pro-Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

He said he as making this statement after getting an intelligence briefing from the government.

Calling it a “very serious matter,” Jagmeet Singh said, “I have received (intelligence) briefings and I would reiterate that there is clear, as the prime minister has shared publicly, there is Canadian intelligence which indicates that a Canadian citizen was killed on Canadian soil and a foreign government was implicated.”

Jagmeet, who is known for his sympathies for pro-Khalistan elements, said,  “There is clear intelligence that Canada has that that lays out the following case: that a Canadian citizen was killed on Canadian soil and a foreign government was involved … That intelligence is something that I think is very credible.”

Herb Dhaliwal, who became the first Indo-Canadian Cabinet minister in Canada in 1997, told IANS that India must cooperate to get to the bottom of the truth in this case.

“It is quite alarming what Prime Minister Trudeau has said, but India is not cooperating. They should be transparent f they have nothing to hide. No prime minister will stand up and make this kind of statement unless he has solid proof. It is time for India to prove that they are a true democracy,” Dhaliwal said.
