Brampton couple arrested when their luggage was examined by CBSA officers on landing at Toronto airport from Jamaica

BRAMPTON: A Brampton couple has been charged after they were found smuggling more than 100 kilograms of drugs by hiding it in their luggage at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport earlier this month.
On February 7, Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) officers recovered the drugs when they examined a family of two adults and two children, ages 10 and 12, arriving from Montego Bay, Jamaica, at the Toronto airport.
During the examination of the travellers’ luggage, the officers discovered approximately 7.7 kilograms of suspected cocaine valued at $962,500, 93 kilograms of suspected marijuana worth $688,940 and 218 grams of suspected hashish avlued at $4,360.
A suitcase concealing cannabis was checked in under the ticket of a 12-year-old child.
The CBSA estimates the total value of the suspected drugs seized at over $1.6 million.
After investigations, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have charged the Brampton couple with three counts of importing controlled substance and three counts of conspiracy to commit an undictable offence.
After consultation with the Region of Peel Children’s Services, both children were released to other family members.
The couple is scheduled to appear at the A. Grenville and William Davis Courthouse in April.
