BRAMPTON: Riyasat Singh, 23, of Brampton has been arrested and Canada-wide hunt is on for another Brampton man Harshdeep Binner, also 23, for attempting to kidnap and murder a woman in Richmond Hill in December last year.

According to York Police, the incident happened on December 20 last year when its officers rushed to an address on King William Crescent in the area of Yonge Street and Bantry Avenue in Richmond Hill after getting a call that a woman had been attacked by two suspects and struck with a frying pan in an underground parking garage.

When a concerned person intervened to stop the attack, the suspects fled in a vehicle.

The victim woman, who was identified as 37-year-old Elnaz Hajtamiri, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect vehicle used in the crime had been stolen from the area of Finch Avenue and Don Mills Road in Toronto. The vehicle was recovered.

After detailed investigations on the basis of evidence, police identified the two suspects. On April 13, police executed a warrant at a residence in Brampton and arrested Riyasat Singh. He has been charged with attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and mischief under $5,000.

The second suspect, Harshdeep Binner, also of Brampton is absconding.  A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for his arrest. Binner too faces charges of attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and mischief under $5,000.

York Police said its officers continue to work closely with the Ontario Provincial Police regarding its ongoing investigation into the abduction of the same woman – Elnaz Hajtamiri – from Wasaga Beach by three men posing as policemen and claiming to have arrest warrants against her. The woman had shifted tp Wasaga Beach after attack on her in December 2021.
